9 Things To Do Before Summer End In Germany
1) Eat "spaghetti eis": We promise it's only a stupid name. This concoction is really just a strawberry ice cream sundae with vanilla "noodles" and strawberry sauce with white chocolate flakes standing in for the cheese. Guten Appetit!
2) Hang out your clean laundry: There is nothing like the smell of clean laundry, hung out to soak up the fresh air. Hang out your sheets before the drying racks take over your apartment for the winter.
3) Hang out on the streets: It's only a matter of time before those tables lining the sidewalks become de facto smoking areas for cafes, restaurants and bars. Enjoy an outside brunch or cocktail hour while it's still warm enough to do so in just a sweater.
4) Catch a flick: The outdoor cinemas are still playing. Grab a ticket before they pack it in for the summer.
5) Go wakeboarding or waterskiing without a boat: Germany has lots of lakes and some are set up for cable skiing and wakeboarding, which is really just a tow rope that zips you around on the water.
6) Sit in a Strandkorb: These little beach baskets are found all over the coast, but you don't have to travel across the country to check this one off our summer bucket list. So-called beach bars along city river banks often have these too.
7) Go on a boat tour in your city: They're cheesy and filled with camera-toting tourists, but a boat does give you an all-new perspective. Most local boat tour operators offer variety so climb aboard. Bonus: They almost always serve beer.
8) Enjoy a variety of local produce: Zucchinis! Plums! Cucumbers! All kinds of greens! The summer produce glut is good in Germany and makes the winter-long diets of potatoes, cauliflower and hothouse tomatoes bearable. Dig in!
9) Take advantage of the summer sales: Get next year's summer wardrobe ready by taking advantage of the last summer sale days in the shops.
